Veterans’ injuries affect the Bears secondary: injury update

When the Bears play the Broncos on Sunday, they’ll be lacking in the secondary.

Eddie Jackson, a safety, and Jaylon Johnson, a cornerback, were both declared out of the game on Friday due to ailments that prevented them from exercising all week. Josh Blackwell, a backup cornerback, was also placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring problem.

Kyler Gordon, a nickel back, is already on injured reserve due to a hand injury that necessitated surgery.

Coach Matt Eberflus was questioned about how youthful the secondary will be given the absence of so many veterans on Sunday.

Most likely No. 1, said Eberflus. But those guys are fired up and prepared. Last year, we played a lot of young players. Those boys have talent, in my opinion. They play well, in my opinion. I’m happy to see Tyrique Stevenson and Smitty (Terell Smith) working there full-time. The challenge will be enjoyable for those people. They have some excellent receivers. They have excellent speed for that position group.

The Bears selected rookie cornerbacks Stevenson and Smith in the second and fifth rounds of this year’s draft, respectively.

Stevenson has played 74 percent of the defensive snaps in the first three games of the season, starting all three. He has recorded 15 tackles and one tackle for loss.

Smith played fewer defensive snaps last Sunday against the Chiefs than he had in either of the first two games, but he still recorded 10 tackles, one tackle for a loss, and one pass breakup.

With regard to Kansas City, Eberflus was impressed by Smith’s composure.

The response from Eberflus was, “I felt he did a really excellent job in there for a little child. Although those young rookies have a lot to learn, it wasn’t enough for him, and I thought he played well, so I believe that he will continue to play well,” the coach said. If you’re a rookie DB, be prepared for them to pursue you. In my opinion, he played well but veterans injuries affect.

Running back Travis Homer, who has been limited in practice for the past two days due to an ankle issue, is the only offensive player on the Bears with an injury classification for the game on Sunday. Veterans’ injuries affect young player.

Nate Davis, a seasoned right guard, is anticipated to participate after missing the previous two contests due to personal matters, according to Eberflus. Davis was there but did not participate against the Chiefs after being inactive against the Buccaneers.
